Section 6.   Team Championship Points System

The 2008 Redline Time Attack season will see the introduction of a Championship Points System. This will be the only points system of its kind in any Time Attack series in North America. Competitors will be awarded points based on their finishing position at each event they attend and successfully complete. Point totals will be kept for each of the 9 Divisions within the Redline Time Attack Series.  Competitors will be allowed to compete in as many events as they desire, however, only the top four points-scoring events for each competitor will be used to determine the standings heading into the Season Championship Finale. Below are the details behind the Redline Time Attack Team Championship Points System.

      • Points will be awarded to the Vehicle, not the Driver.
      • Points will be awarded to every vehicle that successfully completes at least one timed lap during an official “Time Attack” session at a sanctioned Redline Time Attack event, and finishes between 1st and 20th in their Division.

      • The method used for awarding points will be as follows:
  •                        1st:             30 Points
                           2nd:            25 Points
                           3rd:             20 Points
                           4th:            19 Points
                           5th:            18 Points
      • The points awarded will continue to decrease by 1 point from 6th place down to 20th place, with 20th receiving 3 points. Points will not be awarded to any vehicle finishing lower than 20th in their Division.
      • Two “Bonus Rounds” will be scheduled during the 2008 Redline Time Attack Season. The two rounds will be the GTLive event at Miller Motorsports Park and the GTLive event at Virginia International Raceway.
          • For each Bonus Round event, at the conclusion of the 2nd Time Attack session, the 7 fastest vehicles in each Division, based on results from both official Time Attack sessions, will be eligible for the Bonus Session.
          • For the Modified and Unlimited Class Bonus Session, the top 7 Unlimited Class vehicles will be at the front of the grid, in reverse order. Behind the Unlimited cars, will be the top 7 Modified Class vehicles, also in reverse order.
          • The 14 cars total will be grid, and will be taken around the course for one safety lap under caution and lead by an official “Pace Car”. All 14 cars will commence a short 5-Lap sprint race. Each vehicle will be awarded points based on their finishing position within their Class. (7 points for 1st, 6 points for 2nd, 5 points for 3rd, etc.)

          • For a Modified Class or Unlimited Class vehicle to be eligible to participate in the Bonus Session, the vehicle must have an approved roll cage installed. If a vehicle qualifies for the Bonus Session based on time, but fails to qualify based on lack of a roll cage, the next fastest vehicle in that class will be selected to participate in the Bonus Session. If a vehicle owner/driver voluntarily withdraws from participating in the Bonus Session, the next fastest vehicle in that class will be selected to participate in the Bonus Session.
          • For the Street Class Bonus Session, the top 7 fastest Street Class vehicles will be grid in order of fastest to slowest. The Street Class Bonus Session will consist of 7 laps total (1 warm-up, 5 hot laps, 1 cool down)

          • If a Street Class vehicle voluntarily exits the track during the Bonus Session, whether into the Hot Pits or into the Paddock, that vehicle will receive a DNF and zero bonus points.
          • If a vehicle is forced to retire or pull off the track in a safe area, due to a mechanical issue or even voluntarily, and cannot continue on track, for whatever reason, during the Bonus Session, the vehicle will receive a DNF and zero bonus points.

          • Each vehicle is only

          • permitted to keep the points earned from their highest placing finish between the two Bonus Rounds. Vehicles will not be given points from both Bonus Rounds.
          • All points earned during the Super Session will be added to that vehicles Championship Points total.

          • For drivers to be eligible to compete in the wheel-to-wheel portion of the Bonus Rounds (Modified and Unlimited classes), they must possess, or have had possessed within the last 5 years, a road racing competition license from a recognized sanctioning body (SCCA, NASA, PCA, POC, BMWCCA, FIA, etc.). Proof of the license must be provided to Redline prior to the start of the event.
      • Vehicles are permitted to be entered in as many Redline Time Attack events as their owners choose. Only the top 3 points scoring events for each vehicle will be used to determine the Championship Points standings heading into the Season Finale.
      • If a vehicle is damaged in any way during a Redline Time Attack event that prevents its continued use at future Redline Time Attack events (drive train, chassis, etc), the vehicle may be replaced with a similar vehicle fitting the requirements for the same Division. All of the points previously earned by the original vehicle will carry over to the replacement vehicle. If the replacement vehicle does not fit within the same Division as the original vehicle the points previously earned will NOT carry over.
      •  Damage occurred outside of a sanctioned Redline Time Attack event does not qualify as “damage”, per the rules listed above. This includes, but is not limited to, damage that occurs in testing leading up to Redline Time Attack event, damage occurred while Dyno tuning, or damage that occurs at events sanctioned by other sanctioning bodies.
      • If a team/ owner wish to voluntarily retire or replace their original vehicle, after the original vehicle has already competed in a Redline Time Attack event, the team/owner has the right to do this. However, any points attained by the original vehicle, will only carry over to the replacement vehicle if the replacement vehicle competes in the same Division as the original vehicle.
      •  Teams/Owners will only be permitted to voluntarily replace their vehicle once during the season and carry over the vehicle’s points. Teams/Owners will be allowed to voluntarily replace their vehicle more than once; however, they will only be able to carry over the vehicle’s points on the first vehicle change.
      • Following the completion of the Season Finale, the final point standings will be used to determine each of the Division Champions of the 2008 Redline Time Attack Season.
      • Of the three Division Champions within each Class (Street, Modified, Unlimited), the Division Champion with the highest points total after the conclusion of the Season Finale, will be crowned Class Champion.

      • Of the three Redline Time Attack Class Champions (Street, Modified, Unlimited), after the conclusion of the Season Finale, and tabulation of the final points standings, the Class Champion with the highest points total will be crowned Redline Time Attack Grand Champion.
      • Division tie breakers will be determined in this manner:
